On Saturday morning, Andrea and Kevin went to the dentist for their regular teeth-cleaning and check-up. I was a bit nervous about Kevin's reaction to the dentist because we had tried to take him in for his first appointment about 9 months ago, and it didn't go over well with Kevin. He let the dentist peek in his mouth, but that was IT. The dentist had suggested that we try again when Andrea was due for her next appointment (at this age, half a year makes a big difference in a child's emotional maturity). Also, Kevin won't let me brush his teeth (but he won't do it himself, either!). Thus, I wasn't too optimistic.
Thankfully, Kevin had a much better reaction this time. When Daddy tried to help him brush his teeth before going to the dentist, Kevin was suddenly, totally cooperative. They practiced opening his mouth wide and saying, "Ahhhhh!"
I didn't see Kevin's appointment (I was in the waiting room with Ryan), but I could hear what was going on because his chair was just on the other side of the door (which they left open). Daddy went in with him. Kevin did fine! He only whimpered a few times at the start. I could hear them explaining every step of what they were doing, and every teeth-cleaning tool to him. He opened wide just like they practiced, and let them take some quick x-rays and clean his teeth.
Andrea had a great appointment, too. They both have nice clean teeth, and no cavities!
Kevin was fascinated by the new toothbrush the dentist gave him. He thought it was the best "prize" ever. He held onto it for at least an hour after we got home, and then insisted on having his teeth brushed before his afternoon nap AND before bed! I hope his new excitement about dental hygiene continues for a long time. :))
