On Saturday evening, Scott and Chloe drove down from
Oakville to spend the night with us, and go to the Red Bull Air Races over the Detroit River the next day. Just like last year, Andrea and Chloe greeted each other as best friends, and it was like they had only seen each other yesterday! The girls play so well together. Andrea didn't fall asleep until after 10PM, and Chloe was closer to 11PM! Still, they were both up bright and early the next day, and eager to head to the riverfront to the see planes.

The girls had fun waving their flags and dancing to the music during the
pre-race show.

Kevin was pretty impressed with the planes. He and Andrea had to take turns sitting on Daddy's shoulders so they could get a good view of the
pre-race show, and later, the planes running the course.

"
Da planes,
da planes!"

There were some interesting fighter planes in the
pre-race show. Two were old war planes; the second one was a rare German plane from WWII.

Then a pair of more modern F14s made a few passes by us. They were very loud! Ryan was a little nervous about them, but he didn't cry.

Mmm . . . Canadian flag . . .

Red Bull parachutists way up in the sky

We got to stay for the first round of the races. The kids were pretty worn out from the late night the evening before, so it didn't take long before they had had enough.

"Yeah, planes, okay. Gimme my
blankie!"
We stayed long enough to see if Canadian, Pete McLeod (from London, ON) would make it into the second round. Here's his plane zooming by at the turn of the course.

Unfortunately, he didn't advance to the next run, but it was fun to have a "local" favourite to cheer for!
